Recently, I replaced my iPad Air M1 with a new iPad Pro 11″ M4 with 512GB. Why? Because I have a problem: This fancy, shiny, and OLED iPad was too enticing. Sexy even. And yes, as much of an Apple fanatic as I am, I’ll admit that iPad OS barely uses enough power for most in the last Intel generation little lone any of the more sparkly M series, but who cares? Toys are meant to be played with.
Initially, I had the new Magic Keyboard for iPad, but it’s much too heavy and takes away one of the best features of the iPad Pro: its light weight. Don’t get me wrong, the Magic Keyboard for those who want this to be a computer most of the time and not a tablet is ideal. I would have just found myself taking out of the case far more often than I wanted. This is the ultimate tablet to carry around, and despite not going with the keyboard (I never really used the folio keyboard on my iPad Air like I thought I was going to), it’s still mostly a computer replacement for me.
My Highlights:
- Weight
- 580 g, which is just crazy. You can easily hold this while in bed, and it will not be a strain for most people, I don’t think.
- OLED
- If you have not had an OLED screen on a tablet, you’ll never be able to use a standard screen again after using this for a while. I now use mine to read books, as the text is crisp and clear.
- Face ID
- This is the fastest I’ve ever seen Face ID, which is now in the center of the iPad.
- M4
- While, again, not all that useful now, its AI focus will hopefully be utilized in iPadOS 18 in 2024
- Update 06/16/2024: Unfortunately, iPadOS 18 is bafflingly weak, but the overall focus on Apple Intelligence will shine on this device with the M4.
