Rating: 5 out of 5.

Did you enjoy the movie? Did you not enjoy the movie? In either circumstance, the amount of money it made at the box office, unverifiable rumours from people who are not there, the budget, etc., do not matter. It’s all a frantic, twitchy fascination that, at least to me, ruins the experience.

Oh, right… This is a movie review.

In this tale, we meet the Mandalorian (played by Pedro Pascal) and Grogu (toxic cuteness) as they work with the New Republic to track down all of the remaining warlords from the Empire. Under the command of Colonel Ward (played by Sigourney Weaver as she adds another franchise to her list of Alien, Avatar and Ghostbusters), he is given the task of making a deal with a pair of Hutts to track down one of the worst on her list.

Bottom line. This is fun. It’s not complicated, it’s not over the top, it’s a fun tale with some of my favourite characters after many years away. I don’t understand why we never got another season of the show, but I’m thankful for this. Is it like a long episode? I don’t know. I was just enjoying the movie.

In the film, we meet Rotta the Hutt, son of Jabba the Hutt, who is voiced by Jeremy Allen White from the television series The Bear. I was pleasantly surprised by how fleshed-out a character Rotta was. One look at this Hutt with a 24 pack, fighting in an arena, you would assume he’s nothing but a monster and the truth is something you’ll have to discover. I have seen so many movies like this where this character would have been one-dimensional, and I hope that we get to see him again.

Oh, keep an ear open for director Martin Scorsese (Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, etc), who voices a character.

Grogu is an atomic bomb of adorability. Impossible to run from, and no matter how cold your heart is, I believe this little guy can melt it. The fact that he is so frequently a puppet is really what sells it. I don’t think that it would work nearly as well if it was 100% CGI all the time. You want to protect him. If I could put one complaint against the movie, it would be that I would have liked to see him evolve a little.

It looks fantastic; the musical score, by the composer of the TV series, makes it feel epic at times. It’s a small slice of time in the Star Wars universe.

Sit back, enjoy and don’t take everything so seriously. None of us gets out of this alive.
